I remember reading somewhere on the www some time ago, that the plugs on the end of the shift rail tunnels are rubber and are bad about deteriorating and letting out all the fluid, thereby smoking the transmission. Would that still be true on a 98 2wd version? Does anyone know if they sell metal replacements?

Are these trannies pretty much the same throughout their 20 some year usage, or did they upgrade anything?
