which transmission do i have?

i have a 1991 f150 4x4 extended cab. i have a 302 which transmission do it have??? how do i tell?

Is the door jamb sticker still there? If so, look for the trans code.

There are other clues there too. It looks like it's either an AOD or E4OD.

when i take off from a stop it clunks, and its shifts hard

Well, it's not THAT bad behind an unmodified 302 - but note that it was never used in a F-150 with a different engine. That says something. It is a light duty transmission, primarily used in cars.

and yet it still proved to be a big pile of crap in a mustang with the same motor...
