any tips on removing a trans
If you are doing it in the driveway you will need to lift the truck high enough for the transmission to pass under the frame. As for the bolt, I also use a 4 foot extension and a swivel joint. Air tools make is sooooo much easier.

Ahh, the infamous bellhousing bolts...
Well, you need lots of extensions, 6"-3' and some assorted swivels.
As for air tools, break all the bolts by hand then you can get out the air.
Try to use 6 pt. sockets. As my buddy Jeff would say, "If you strip one of
those bolts it'd truly be a greek tragedy."
Just find a place further back underneath the truck where you can see the bolt,
and try to get a socket on it with extensions.

The easiest way to get the upper bellhousing bolts is to let the trans and t-case hang down, by removeing the trans cross member first. undo the upper bellhousing bolts first, then you can lift up the trans and remove the remaining ones after. dont let the trans hang down much more that 4" and the rear trans mount or you risk damageing fan or shroud. tho i must admit, in all the years i removed trannys at ford, letting them hang all the way down, i have only ever broken a couple fans, and they were in explorers.
good luck, and if you need more specific info on individual parts, let me know, ill be glad to help.
