Do I have a tranny cooler?

Sorry to bug you about this guys, real quick question. My truck came with the factory tow package, and I'm wondering if it has the external transmission cooler or just that one that's an internal part of the radiator. What do I have? Thanks

If it has the tow package, it has an aux trannie cooler. It will be between the grille and the radiator. There will also be a second cooler down low that you can only really see from underneath. That is your power steering cooler.

If you looking thru the grill, if there is an aux trans cooler, it'll be on the lower left side. The cooler on the lower right is the power steering cooler.

If I recall, the 4.6's only got the aux trans coolers 'with' the factory 'tow package'... Otherwise, all they rely on is the rad to cool the trans fluid....

Mine is an 2003 and has the tow package. Your external trans cooler is on the lower passenger front side of the rad. The power steering cooler is the one on the drivers side. Trans fluid moves from your trans to the top of the rad on the drivers side and out the bottom of the rad and to the trans cooler and back to the trans.

If you do any sort of heavy hauling or towing your stock external cooler is probably not enough. I added a stock one from the F250 SD and took my smaller f150 one out. It bolts right in and is at least 3 times bigger than what you have. F150PARTSGUY should be able to get you one if you are interested.

Grizz, what do you tow, and what were your temps before and after the changeover? Lastly, can you tell us what year SD cooler fits? (I assume all 97-03 would be the same.)

Thanks.

Andy
