5 or 6 speed manual swap on 97

has anyone swapped a manual trans. from a 3/4 ton to a automatic 97 half ton 4x4 with 5.4? is gearing any different between the two? will shifter location be an issue? is it possible to swap in an older trans like a 4 speed?
my automatic is gettin kinda tired.

In order to use a manual transmission in an automatic vehicle you will need to purchase the pedals, reprogram the PCM to eliminate the transmission control functions, cut a hole in the floor of the truck, install a flywheel and clutch kit, including the pilot bearing, and install a clutch control system. The gearing is obviously different as you are going from a 4 speed to a 5 or 6 speed. If you mean differential gearing then there is no difference between the two transmission options. Why would you want a 4 speed manual transmission? I would recommend a ZF transmission from a SuperDuty.
