Question transmission fluid dissapearing!

I have an 03 fx4 with a 5.4. I do not know what trans it has in it. It seems to be losing trans fluid and I cant tell where its going. It is not on the ground and there is no oil spots on the trans. Its not going in the radiator. It seems to shift just fine when driving. It does have a shudder when I take off and turn but from what Ive read on here that is the clutch packs. Any suggestions on where it is going and could the engine be burning it from some kind of bad modulator or something? Any help would be much appreciated.

You are checking it hot and in Park with the engine running? Check the transfer case oil level. Older models have had the transmission oil leak into the transfer case.

Just checked the the transfer case and it was about a half a gallon overfull. I guess the seal is out, does anyone know about how much it would cost to replace the seals bettween the transfer case and the trans?

Got my truck back today!! It cost about 170.00 to get a new seal bettween the transfer case and the transmission and another 120.00 to get the rear-end drained and some friction modifier added and refilled. I cant believe the oil for the diff cost 20.00 a quart. Well its fixed now anyway. Now I just wonder when the sparkplugs are gonne blow out!! LOL

Me neither. I just bought a case of Red Line (12 quarts) for $104.88 ($8.74 per quart). But I guess your shop has to mark up parts, since they are losing so much on the labor, in order to make a living.
