Aod
Ok here goes it
I went a bought a 1990 E150 for the motor and trans for my 1985 F150 was told it was a plug and play swap( ha ha) well its not both 5.0 both door jam trans code is T
the 90 trans has at the speedo the cable and a place to plug wires in too
the 85 onl has the speedo gear no wires
when cking on line it say that the 90 shold be a AOD but Im thinking its a AODE both van and truck had on the shifter PRN( D) 21
so is there any way to make the 90 trans work like gut it and swap it in to the 85 case or some way to make it work just the way it is I really need to get this back on the road asap
If I had know someone give me bad info on it i would have pulled the 90 wireing and stuff( I did pull the computer though) rest of the van has been crushed all ready
sorry for this being long and thanks for any help

You're saying the newer tranny has wires where the speedo cable goes into it, correct? Can you post pictures of what you're talking about? You should be able to unbolt the housing with the wiring, pull it out and install your speedo cable in its place. That's assuming the transmission is an AOD which it should be. If it's an AOD it will have a linkage running up to the throttle body. An AODE has a big multi-pin plug pointing straight up on the right side of the tranny, right above the right rear corner of the pan. If I'm understanding you correctly, you have the right transmission and it just has a speed sensor piggy backed on the speedo cable.

now to the tailshaft 90 is 11 1/4 and the 85 is 10 1/2 so do I just need to chance the houseing or do I need to do the tailshaft tpp and can it be done with opening up the trans or would haveing the dr line reworked be better
thanks for getting back to me
Phil
and as always here is a good place to find things out
Is the output shaft longer as well or just the tail housing? If the output shafts are the same length you can run it as is, but if the output shaft in the newer trans is longer you may need to shorten the driveshaft. You might get away with running it the way it is since it's only 3/4" difference but you run the risk of bottoming out the driveshaft on the output with the rear suspension compressed. Your best bet is probably to shorten the driveshaft to match the length of the output shaft/tail housing. You could swap out the shafts and housings but the transmission would have to be torn all the way down.
