Tranny overfill?????

I recently changed my tranny fluid, not converter and all, just dropped the pan and replaced the filter. The guy at O'reilly's told me that it required 5 qts for this, so that is what I put in. I was dumb and didn't put 4 in and then check so anyway my question is. When I check it hot it the fluid is at the top of the stick in the "do not fill" area. It doesn't go above the plastic, should I take it to a shop and have them vacuum pump out some to get it down into the "hot" area or should it not be a big deal?

Thanks.

It always helps to give as much details as you can about your truck, to get your questions answered correctly.

Automatic Transmission, 4R70W 5.0 quarts
Automatic Transmission, 4R100 Initial Fill 6.5 quarts

Its the 4R70W, I put 5 Qts in. I drove for about 5-10 miles until engine was warm and then checked it.

If you still have the original pan, then 5 qts is the right amount to put in. Just wait for someone else to confirm that you did not overfill your transmission

Are you checking it while idling in Park?

Yes. Should I not be? Should I do as said above, idling in "N"?

I always check in N, but as long as the truck is running it shouldnt matter between P or N. How much over full is it on the stick? 1/4"?

So its still puddled up in the dipstick tube then? It look likes its massively overfilled?

Drive around make sure it shifts into every gear, and locks/unlocks the convertor a couple times.

Been driving it for 3 days now since it was changed, tranny shifts great, really smooth and doesn't feel like there is a problem.

When I pull the dipstick the fluid is up above the "hot" indicator area and into the "do not fill" area but does not get above the plastic indicator onto the actual stick.

I wouldnt worry about it too much, if it really bothers you, you can take some out, but as long as its not massively over filled im sure you will be fine.

Mine used to read about 1/3" past the hatches, and i left it alone and kept driving....

Cool. Thanks, it seems to be shifting great. Have to make a 200-250 mile trip on Monday and just wanted to be sure that it wasn't a huge deal before I headed out.
