Trany shifts hard

I've got a 2008 F150 FX4 SCREW. It has the factory 20"s (which I think means I have 3.56 gears). I seem to be, and have for the past 4 months, having a problem w/ my tranny. I noticed that it downshifts really hard sometimes (you can feel it jolt) at around 25MPH most of the time. I drive 50 miles a day and spend most of my time going 55MPH. The road im on the most is kinda hilly, so i slow down going up some of the hills... and i'll hit my gas, but as Im sure you all know, my truck will continue to slow down, until the thing decides to take the gas Im giving it to speed up... well by the time it speeds up, the tranny has decided to downshift (since im slowing down by going uphill) and then it makes a click sound and jolts the truck and speeds up. I think I may have bought a lemon considering my a/c actuater (or whatever its called) already need to be replaced and Ford doesnt get the part shipped to them until Feb 1, and my rear brakes wore out last fall, and my cowl flap was replaced twice. Its still under warranty. I got it mid 08, after it sat on the lot for a year. Has around 15K miles on it (I drive a lot). Any thoughts?

Thanks for your reply! Yeah, I dunno what the deal is... but I guess if its gonna die on me it'll do it within 15K more miles, which is what's left of my warranty. So yeah, I will probably just continue to drive it.

Hard to tell from your description exactly what the shift is like, but many of us have paid a lot of money for tuners that program very firm shifts. A quick, firm shift is easier on the transmission as the built in slippage that causes wear and heat has been eliminated.

well, i tried to write it out the best i could... it doesnt' happen all the time, just every now and then... but when Im goin up a big hill - consequently the truck will slow down, and when I go to push the accelerator to keep up my speed the truck still seems to be slowing down, and then while Im still pushing in the accelerator, the truck will downshift - still slowing down here - and then i'll push the petal even more, and the truck will "click" and I can feel it shift again, and then it will accelerate..... And sometimes when Im slowing down - like for a stopsign or stoplight - the truck will downshift hard around 25mph....

sounds to me like the truck is doing what its supposed to do going uphill. when the truck accelerates, that is it downshifting. try turning overdrive off while going uphill.

as far as the click goes, i don't think that's normal, or the hard downshift while slowing down.

go to the dealership and ask for a reflash of the PCM. try that first and see what happens.
