Tranny Problem, Inconsistent
I have a 88 F150 with an AOD trans (it also says "metric overdrive" on it). A few weeks ago, it started having a problem with overdrive. It doesn't always drop into overdrive, sometimes staying in 3rd long after it should have shifted. I have to get off the gas and wait about 5 seconds for it to drop into overdrive. And just this week I was driving 30+ miles and near the end of the trip, overdrive slipped once. The engine revved but tranny didn't. It didn't do it again for about 2 weeks, until today. I got it nice and hot on a long drive and it slipped again towards the end of the drive. Both times, I just took it out of overdrive for the rest of the trip. And sometimes it acts like a new transmission the whole time. It's inconsistent, and I can't figure it out. Any ideas? Could the valve body be clogged? Or maybe a bad adjustment on the TV cable?
I haven't since I got the truck. Come to think of it, I don't think it was changed before that either. (company truck) It's got 70k on the tranny - could dirty fluid be doing all the things I mentioned?
Also, I checked the TV cable. According to all the instructions I found on the web, it's already adjusted properly.
