Unhappy 4x4 won't engage!

Hi all,

I had to repost this b/c I really need the help. Anyone, any ideas?

Well, discovered that the 4x4 high or low won't engage in my 97 f150 with 120,000 miles. It's probably been 6 mths. since I last used it and it worked great then. The dash indication light turns on for both high and low 4x4 but front axel won't engage. Got some snow and ice here the last few days so would be great to get this thing running like it should be (no one wants to drive a 4x4 in 2 wheel drive when the reason they have it is to get through the snow!)

Thanks and any help is greatly appreciated.

Tommy

check around for vacuum solinoid issues, sounds like that may be your issue.

I've got a similar problem. My 98 will go into 4H and display 4 x 4, and will make little clicking noises until the light comes on. When I turn to 4L, it never goes into 4L, and since this is my first F150, should it say 4L or something to let me know it's in 4L?

And, it won't come out of 4H and back to 2wd until I stop the truck and turn the key off.

Any help is a BIG help.

Thanks

Mike

To get into 4L must be stopped, in Nuetral, then shift into 4L, then back in gear.
