Hey guys. I have a 97 f150xl with a 4.6 Windsor and a 5 speed. I had the transmission "fully rebuilt" less than 20,000 miles ago. Today I was driving and the truck suddenly won't go into 3rd or 4th gear. The shifter will move to the position but the truck remains in neutral. 1st, 2nd, 5th gears all work normally. So I was able to limp home.

Do you guys think that it is something that will require the transmission be pulled off and apart again. I cant afford another $2000 fix. Do you think that a guy could pull it himself to save a lot of labor and then bring it in to fix? How many of you have fixed similar issues all on your own?

It would seem that a shift pin has sheared. You have to take the cover off to to get to the shift forks. Yours should look like the one on the left.
