Unhappy Clutch problem, help!

So I have a 04 f-150 stx, has 49,000 miles on it. My clutch pedal has no pressure, this happened on my old ranger and it needed a new slave cylinder? Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for me to try or why this is happening. I have added brake fluid to the little reservoir under the hood but that didn't help at all.

Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

Is the reservoir losing fluid? If so then you have a leak on the pressure side of the system, either the slave cylinder or the line to it. If you are not losing fluid then the problem is most likely the master cylinder. As the seals wear the master cylinder can aerate and quit working. i had this problem on my 99.

I had to replace both the master and the slave on mine at 62k. They were both leaking externally and the fluid was nasty black. Master is easy, but the slave is internal to the bellhousing, the tranny has to come out. If there's fluid dripping out of the bellhousing onto the ground, it's the slave. You could try bleeding it, it's easier than ripping things apart.

Thanks for the replies. When I added fluid I forgot to take out the little rubber gasket thing lol. Adding brake fluid helped a little bit, its drivable now but the pedal still feels half dead.

Also I have not noticed any leaking, at least not from the reservoir under the hood (master cylinder?) and not from the line that runs down from that. This weekend I might try to bleed the system, is that going to be crazy hard? Any tips on doing this?

Thanks again for any info

You need to check the bottom of the bell housing for evidence of a fluid leak.

What is the precedure for bleeding the slave system?

Sometimes back bleeding works better - fill a squirt can COMPLETELY with fluid, connect a hose to it and the bleeder screw, open the screw and take off the master cylinder cap, and start pumping the can.
