i've haven't broken the 100k mark yet, but close 99930mi. but i haven't had a problem so far. i use it to tow ~4k every other month. i rarely drive it as a daily. i change the oil at regular intervals so hopefully this thing will last a long time.

Angry

Had to have a rebuilt xmission put in at 124K miles on 4-14-06 and now just tonight I lost third gear (overdrive) with 163k miles. I don't off road or tow anything. Fluid looks good and does not smell burnt. Another $1400 down the drain with this piece of junk.

I feel lucky after reading some of these posts.

196,000 and counting. I am considering a rebuild as the trans doesn't snap into gear ike it used to. Most noticible in 3-od then 1-2 or 2-3 for that matter. If you let off the throttle just a bit you can feel it "lock up" and then pour the power back to it.

Sound like i need a rebuild or just a fluid change??

It's not rocket science. Change your fluid/filter at the scheduled maintance intervals... More often if you tow, offroad, or use your tranny in a "heavy duty" manner. I see more tranny failures due to neglect (ie. never changing the fluid or changing too late) than anything else.

It's rare, but some people do get lemons...

197K, never have changed the fluid. But it is a daily driver, no hard use, no towing and no off road.

Now I thought about changing the fluid but my buddies say that will be a mistake as the transmission will begin to fail after a fluid change at this point.

Mine has 203k on it. I've been leary about changing the fluid because of the mileage. After the 30k+ miles I've put on it the fluid is still nice and clear and red.

That depends on who you ask. I think that if you drop the pan and only find the normal particles stuck to the magnet you will be fine but if there are chunks in the pan a rebuild is in your future fluid change or not. If you are freaked out by what your buddies said pull the pan and do the filter and top up the 5 or 6 quarts that come out. So you only have changed about a third of the fluid and the filter. This way you can see the wear and tear, the filter is clean and there isn't too radical a change with the fluid. Your pan gasket is reusable if it is in good shape and works the best from what I have seen.
