Is your truck a 4x4? What motor? What size Differentials? Are you planing on going with a bigger tire?

After you give us some more info we will be able to better assist you. In the mean time page 2 has a ton of helpful info for you on gears, selecting gears, and were to buy gears.

Ok, well I am just going to warn you that a gear swap on a 4x4 F150 is not cheap they are very labor intensive. I am getting ready to put 4.56 gears in my truck, and I have been quoted $390 per diff (after employee discount through a friend) and I have to bring in every last part. So a realistic ball park for gears will be $1500. And if you are considering going bigger then I would spend the extra $50 bucks per set of ring and pinions and go with 4.56's but if you plan on staying at this set up then 4.10's would work but 4.56's will really help get you moving easier. So with that said I would probably go with the 4.56's since you sound like you will upgrade later.

Can you get the axle tag off of the door? If it has a letter followed by a number (H9 I believe this is the 3.55 ls code) you will have the Limited Slip if it is 2 numbers(19 I believe that is the 3.55 open code) then you have an open diff. I would like to know if you have limited slip or not. If you do there is an additive you will have to buy so it does not tear up the gears.

A close approx. of your rpms with the new gears for either set up is:

New RPMS = (Old Rpms X New Gear Ratio) / Old Gear Ratio

EX: 2310 approx. = (2000 X 4.10) / 3.55
EX: 2569 approx. = (2000 X 4.56) / 3.55

You would only see about a 1-2 mpg at most loss at that rpm range for highway speeds and you should see an increase in your city driving.

Sorry for the long post.

Well then you do in fact have limited slip. So when you go to buy gear oil for your rear dif make sure you buy the friction modifier to condition the oil properly for the limited slip. You will need 75w/90 for the front which is an 8.8" IFS diff. and your 8.8" rear will take 75w/140.

And sorry I just realized I goofed up my link Check for that link in my first post now it should be there.
