Am I correct? (Troubleshooting noise)
Am I correct? (Troubleshooting noise)
So after doing some searching on the forum and climbing under the truck to check things out, I've narrowed my "noise/squeak" to the u-joints. Here's what I notice:
-Loudest when accelerating from a stop, at high speeds it's barely noticeable(maybe the exhaust and road noise drown it out)
-Seems to be coming from the rear, but can't pinpoint that.
-On decel/coasting or hard braking there is a binding noise(slight meatic clanking, sounds like a heat shield rattle, which it's not, just sounds like it)
-It seems to spin up much quicker than the truck moves, and it is not an idler pulley, putting it in neutral and reving does not change it
Do u joints actually squeak, I figured it would be more of a grinding, or I'd feel a significant clunk when shifting to drive. If I replace the differential side, do I just go ahead and to the trans side as well? I have the press tool, but how hard is it to get those original ones out? (BTW 130k miles on the truck)
Thanks
(if it works out to be the case, I'll post pictures of how I do it and what I find, probably could help someone else out as well)
