will this hold?

i did a little red-neck fix. my tranny line rotted through and was leaking, so i cut out the metal line and took radiator hose and hose clamped it down,

what im wondering is if the fluid will eat through the hose and if it eats the hose if it will spoil the fluid. im pretty sure it is not a high pressure line, so the clamps will hold,

any one do this cheap fix yet?

That is the same way the dealer would fix it if you took it to them. I have read other post of the dealer charging a small fortune just to do that same fix.

use tranny cooler hose and use 2 good clamps on each end. ive fixed many rotted lines that way. flaring the ends helps also if you have the tool.

Without flaring the line it is an accident waiting to happen. The trans fluid will turn the standard heater or fuel hose into mush.

ill get the tranny hose, no problem there but what is this flaring?

it it just opening the line and tapering it out like one of those pilgrims shotguns on turkey day in the cartoons or what?

also, i lost a lot of fluid. but when i check my level it says do not add. but it is lower than normal, i check regularly and theres a fresh coat of fluid on my frame, rust prevention ill call it, but ever since i got my rebuild with a built up tranny it nas had a higher level than stock. it has been shifting harder than usual so is it safe to put the fluid back up to where it was?

it does have an external mounted cooler and filter, the tranny place added another cooler and another filter, so because of this wouldnt i need more fluid?

How are you checking the level? If you are just pulling the dip stick with the engine off, then you won't get the correct level.. Must have engine running, move gear shift thru each gear for a moment or two. Fluid at operating temp and then check the stick.

Not too sure on running two tranny coolers?? Isn't it better to get a larger SINGLE cooler? Add on filters are also something I've heard you don't want to do either.... Something about losing too much fluid pressure, or building up too much pressure before the filter??

How does an aluminum tranny line 'rot out'?? My 97 with 187,000 miles on it does not leak a drop??

Good luck!

i checked the fluid right, just after my commute in park running.

larger cooler not two coolers, an external mounted filter was added.

so i was thinking it would take more fluid, at least hold more.

as for rotting out, it was corroded and the fluid was streaming out of it, chit happens

all lines eventually will rot out and leak.its better to flare but. youll be ok as long as u use good stainless hose clamps you want a good 2-3 inches after you slide it on the hardline for good clamping.
