Replacing Tranny Filter

Hello!

Is there a step by step instructional somewhere on changing the tranny oil & (especially) filter on a 2006 F150 5.4L, 2WD. I'm at 30,300 miles now, and would like to do it myself.

Also does anyone know if the pan has a reusable gasket?
Is the entire job tedious, or fairly simple?

Thanks!

Isn't 30,000 miles the recommended transmission service time period?

I don't have my manual with me but that sounds right. The filter on my 03 is easy once you get the pan off. It just slips into the hole, no bolts or nothing to hold it on. Make sure to old seal off the old filter is not stuck in the hole when you put the new one on, mine did. The pan gasket is reusable it will say so on the bottom of your trans pan. The job is simple but very messy as there is no drain plug in the pan. I put down a bunch of old newspapers around my drain bucket to catch the overflow. Clean out the bottom of the trans pan good including the magnet you will find there. There will also be a plastic plug in the bottom of the pan. Chuck it out it is from the assembly line. Torque the pan bolts to 125 inch pounds. If you are just draining the pan you will need about 6 bottles of mercon V. Get extra just in case. The rest will be stuck in your torque convertor. Add fluid with the truck off or it blows all over and check your levels with the truck running in park. Every time you add run the shifter through all the gears stopping on each one down and back to park. There is a method of draining all the fluid at home but it requires starting and stopping the truck several times. Do a search and you will find it.
