What to Expect?

How many miles should I expect to get out of a tranny on a '98 with the 4.6. Alot of the miles are highway, and the ones that arent were generally pretty easy driven miles. Right now I'm at 190k, I just had the motor rebuilt so I'm trying to be heads up for my next possible problem. Thanks.

how well has the tranny been taken care of? have you noticed anything starting to show now like slipping?

no one can really give you a number but ive seen a few 150s with nearly 300k and still on the stock tranny.

236K on my 97 5.4L with E4OD. I put a shift kit in at 30K, and have been running Mobil 1 Trans Fluid (at 30K change intervals). Seems fine, and I have no doubt it will make 300K. I drive it hard, but I don't abuse it. I am probably a bit more picky about maintenance than the average person. It is not my Daily Driver anymore, but my wife uses it every day, and I drive it on weekends. Excellent truck!

E4OD's are strong transmissions. Can be made bulletproof if built right. They are also controlled by various sensors throughout the truck. So if you are having problems with shifting and what not, make sure to pull codes before assuming your tranny is dying.

He has the 4.6, I don't think they put the E4OD in that, I think he has the 4R70W. My E4OD is working fine, I think he is saying his is as well. Built is say his is blown up......

hey does anyone by any chance know how to read the date tag on the side of the transmission and if that would be a good way to tell if the transmission is the stock one that came with the truck or is there another method?
