Has My Transmission Gone Bad?

1997 FORD TAURUS 3.0 130,OOO MILES

I noticed over the past month that there was a slight hesitation when putting the car in reverse from a starting position.

Tonight my wife had the car in drive going very slow from a parking lot and it just quit. The lever arm under the hood is connected. The car actually goes in park and neutral like it should. But nothing when you put it in drive or reverse.

Fluid level appears to be fine. What do you suggest? I called AAA for a tow, after waiting for an eternity, if finally gave up and pulled it home with a rope. That's a whole nother story.

Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated. It's sitting infront of my house waiting for me to do something....

Thanks BSA

Something has gone bad, without a doubt. Count on a rebuild, replacement or junk yard deal but it's gotta be something internal.

Well, I ordered a remanufactured transmission from Advanced Auto, cost about $1200 plus 350 installation.

Problem is, i doubt I could get 2k out of the car if it was working. Motor and body is good so I took the plunge.

Thanks
