new BIGGER tires...re-gearing advice please!!!!
Whats up guys. So i'm getting a 6" lift on some 37's. I know i'm gonna have to re-gear my truck so my MPG aint horrible. So can anybody give me some of their oppinions to what gears i should go with?? i have the stock 3.55:1 Limited slip. Let me know you guys.
X 2...4.56 at a bare minimum.
With 37's, I would refuse to drive that truck with 3.55's. I would have done gears first!!
I learned my lesson the hard way like most people, but now I tell everyone this...Gears should be a part of your wheel/tire budget. If you can't afford gears, don't get wheels and (taller) tires until you can!!!!!!!!!!!

Galaxy, Amen. 35 and 3.73's was almost unbearable for me. I cant imagine shorter gears and taller tires, YUCK!
If budgeting is a problem, do your rears first. DO NOT USE 4x4!!!!!!!!!!!
Then when you get the money, or have the gear oil changed after break-in drop it off and do the front axle. Then you can use 4x4 again.
You can do them seperately on an f-150, just do not use 4x4 with different ratios in your axles. you will be on deck for a new transfer case, transmission, and possibly driveshaft and/or ring and pinion sets.

If you have a 4x4 then you need to do both the front and rear, if its a 4x2 then just the rear.
2000f150,
Get 4.88's for front and rear axles. If you need to save some cash, just do the rears now and you can do the fronts when you get the cash saved. If you do this, you cannot use 4x4.
If you are in bartlett, go to 4 wheel parts on covington pike. Ask for Jacob. he will set you up.

This is what I've been driving for almost a year now!! Plus...save some money and install the fronts yourself. Worse thing that can happen is you get a little whine while using 4WD...but who goes fast enough in 4WD to get whine??
First off - i'm not sure you can fit 37's with only a 6" lift. not sure about that though.
second. accuautoparts.com has the best prices on gears that i have found.
third - i did the same thing. i changed the rear gears first and put some red electrical tape over the 4x4 switch so i wouldn't inadvertatly engage it.
you need the same gears in the front as the back. i went with the Yukons!
