Ranger Transmission Problem

Hey guys I know this is an F150 site but you guys seem to solve all problems whether its a Ford 150 or something different. My son has a 1996 Ranger 3 liter. It wont go into reverse unless the truck is warmed up. We changed the filter and fluid and pretty much no change. It shifts in all foward gears right off from the begining with out being warmed up? Any ideas? Please give me your knowlegable suggestions Please!!! Thanks Guys!!

Pol, that's fine, but the OP has an automatic.

I think you are looking at a tranny rebuild.

Could be a very dirty valve body assembly in the tranny. Flushing will not fix it, dont waste your time. A good tranny shop could remove and clean it, but they would probably want to rebuild the transmission. I rebuilt an Ford A4ld on a 86 ranger years ago. Wasnt bad....
