Bad yoke and U-joint...

I got a call from the tranny shop saying that my rear main seal was leaking and so was the tranny lines going into the radiator. They want $400 to reroute the lines through the tranny cooler, change the rear main seal, and powerflush the tranny! Does that sound right? Then they call and say that the yoke and u-joints need to be changed or they will cause the rear main seal to go bad again....total cost $600!

I told them to just do what I asked and I would take care of the u-joints and yoke myself. The only reason I decided to take it to the shop was I smelled tranny fluid when I got out of the truck last night and am in the middle of moving (no garage right now).

Can anyone tell me if a bad yoke and u-joint would cause the rear main seal to go out or are they trying to screw me! It's a 2000 super cab with the 4.6L and the 4R70w tranny.

Thanks in advanced from a truck owning noobie!

Do you mean the *engine* rear main seal, or the tranny tailshaft seal?

I highly doubt a bad yoke and u-joint would do anything to the engine rear main seal.
