97 F150 manual tranny 4.6L...

Hi,
I've had two F150's now (97 XLT, ext. cab 4x4 off road 4.6L and a 2001 Crew cab 4x4 with the 5.4L) both automatic.

I'm currently looking at a 1997 XL with the 4.6L and the manual tranny with the long bed. It has just under 100k miles on it. I'm thinking it would be more reliable than the automatic...am I wrong?

I will be hauling at most 1000 pounds in the bed, and possibly a small pop up camper.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Absolutely love the 4.6L/M5OD-R2 combo. Works with the motor well. Shift short and early for mileage, or wind 'er out to 5500 defuel for some fun.

Before the diesel we pulled waaaayyyyy too big of trailers with it and not a problem at all.

The only weak spot is the internal slave cylinder.
