Thumbs up '05 4x4 would not engage, I think I fixed it!

READ THIS BEFORE BUYING A NEW TRANSFER CASE MOTOR. I have a 2005 F-150 Lariat 4x4. About a year ago, I stated having problems with the truck not going into 4x4. It was intermittent and I would sometimes have to get on the road and get up some speed before the 4x4 would engage. During an oil change at Ford, I mentioned this to the service advisor. Of course, it worked fine for the Ford service tech., so not resolution. It slowly got worse until the 4x4 would not engage at all. I took the truck into Ford today and was told it needed a new transfer case motor and it would cost $480. Ouch! I have 40K miles, so no warranty (I was under warranty when Ford looked at the problem last time). I didn't have time to get the motor installed today, so I left. Just a while ago, I decided to crawl under my truck and tap on the motor with a hammer. I then started my truck and flipped the 4x4 switch. THE 4x4 ENGAGED and now seems to be working fine. You might try this. I know I will now drive my 4x4 off road more often.

That's fine if you want to crawl under your truck and use a hammer all the time. It's not fixed. Get the actuator motor.

Well if you do end up changing one I can help. I have one in stock. Your price would be $144.33 plus shipping.

Thanks
Dennis
