Clutch Wont Disengage...HELPPP

So i just bought this 89' F150 XLT Lariat...Power everything and 4x4
for 1000 bucks. he told me that the clutch needed an adjustment cause it would not go into gear. also clutch pedal goes to the floor and stays there. so i had it towed to my house and im pretty sure its the slave cyl or master cyl. i took the rubber boot to the transmission off and can see the slave cyl is leakin. and yes its internal... ummm does anyone know what exactly is goin on with it. and i know nothing about fixing engines or transmissions i just know body damage. so im aware i will need to take it to an actual repair shop. does anyone know how much it is goin to cost. please write back with anything you can tell me. its much appreciate. THANKS!

The transmission needs to come out and the bell housing removed to change the slave cylinder. It's integral with the throwout bearing. You are looking at around $300 to $500 labor to relace a $50 part.

Depending on whether the slave cylinder is just leaking or has completely blown out, you may be able to just bleed it and get by for a while. I always just GRAVITY bleed these. Unscrew the round black top on the clutch master cylinder, PULL THE RUBBER CUP OUT, don't forget that, fill the master cylinder with brake fluid, crawl under near where you took that rubber boot off, a little in front of there, takes a 7/16 wrench I believe, is a bleeder fitting, loosen that and let the fluid flow never letting the master cylinder go dry, keep filling it with brake fluid, let atleast 12 ounces of brake fluid flow through there, leaving the top off the master cylinder so you don't create a vacuum lock, then tighten that bleeder screw first, then fill the master cylinder reservoir back to the proper level leaving room for that rubber cup. This may get you by for a while if the slave cylinder is not completely blew out.

For 800 bucks you could probably get a new clutch too.

I think the book rate is around 6 hours for this - see what your local shops' hourly rate is. Independents will be cheaper than a dealer.

so the shop said it would be around 950$ for a brand new clutch, flywheel, slave cyl, master cyl, and hydraulic line. plus labor. he said he didnt think i would need a master cyl to so without that it would be 850$. if he goes in and finds out the clutch and flywheel arent in need a change then its goin to also decrease the cost by alot. do you guys think this is goin to be a good deal. he said it would be a one day job and im really wantin to get this truck up and goin.

Sounds quite fair to me. I doubt you would need a new flywheel, the existing one can be pulled and bench ground if you are replacing the clutch.

$950.00 for just parts is high. At the most you should have $
500.00 worth of parts.

Ohhhh - PLUS labor? Nope, bad deal. Sorry about that.

I paid through the nose for mine - full markup. I got a new master, new slave and throwout bearing, a heavy duty Brute Power disc and pressure plate, fresh tranny fluid, and flywheel resurfaced for $1250 including sales tax (7% on parts), labor was 6+ hours at $80 an hour - around $500. I could have saved $150 if I had gotten an OEM clutch but they were backordered. $950 including labor is more like what that job is worth.

A dedicated tranny shop is willing to do labor on my Dak's NV3500 5 speed manual for $350... they are going to flush it and do anything necessary to make it like new. Of course I am in the process of buying a CenterForce DF clutch+flywheel for it this summer. So I'll have them do it... Total cost is around the $850 range. Not bad considering what I'm getting.

Gosh I love manuals.

If they do good work... I'll get a CenterForce DF clutch+flywheel for the F150 too... They said it'd be about the same... if not less. They are very familiar with both the NV3500 and the M5OD series. And how I know they are good is when the guy can tell me without even looking it up what tranny I have in both trucks.

My next clutch will be a Centerforce or a stock Ford OEM - this Brute Power is a piece of ****. It chatters like a bucking bronco unless I'm hauling a bigass load.
