Unhappy '99 f150 auto-tranny trouble

need help with a problem with my transmission that came outta nowhere. i went to pull into the driveway last night as usual, put the truck in reverse and started up the drive when the transmission felt like it just jumped out of gear and rolled forward back down the drive. i checked to see if it was still in reverse and it was. i now have no reverse gear. so i drive the truck back down the street to see if it shifts through the other gears ok. it seemed to take a little longer to shift from first to second but did. a little further down the road it again felt like it jumped out of gear and had no forward drive. i pull over and stop, thinking im gonna have to call someone. i tried it once more and got the same thing. will shift from first to second but then nothing. i got it back home and pulled the pan but everything looked ok fluid wise (just changed the fluid and filter a few hundred miles back.)

it was suggested to me it might be shift solenoids? any suggestions?

Sounds like one of the spring clips broke inside the tranny. My E4od lost everything except 1st gear and that is what happened.

Two things come to mind.
Since you just changed the fluid.
1) Check the level, it may be low.

2) you added regular Mercon. You need Mercon V
spec fluid or the friction of the clutches may no be worse
than before.
