my dad has a 2001 ford 5.4 supercrew with electric 4x4..when he puts it in to 4high there is no problem...when he clicks it out the light will come off, but it will still be in 4x4....it will stay in until you back up a little ways....any ideas....and also when he puts it in 4low it doesnt lock all the wheels in(got stuck in our back yard in 5inches of snow )......any ideas guys....he just wants if to work like mine...haha

 

How many wheels turn? If more than 2 wheels turn it is normal. If one front and one rear wheel turns it is normal if you have an open diff. If none of the front wheels turn there is a problem. The backing up to disengage the 4x4 is not normal. That sounds like the shift motor in the t-case is defective. How do you know it is still in 4x4 mode even when the light is off?

more than 2 wheels turn..that must be normal then.....i know its still in 4x4 because if i try to spin the wheels in snow or somthing i can feel the front end grab and pull...and on dry payvment it wont turn...thanks for your help
