4X4 problems

before anyone says anything, yes I have used the search button. I put my truck in 4WD today to pull someone out of the snow, and my front tires arent pulling!!!! The transfer case is engaging, but nothing is pulling in the front end. When I got done pulling the people out (yes, in 2WD) I went to town to the gas station and I put the truck in 4 LO and it went in and acted as it should, but any other time it wont go in, what should I start looking for?? Any help is greatly appreciated.

How much did the solenoid cost you to replace?

well generally as a rule i won't use junkyard parts, but i got one offa junk'd f-150 cab {bolted against passenger firewall} for $20..but my wrench told me they're round $150 canadian..but since its just a solenoid and it either works or doesn't, i'd just do the same as i..good luck dude!!

Do not assume it is the solenoid. That is the last thing I would check that is on the list of that other thread.

thats true enuff kingfish....but in my case i had a hole in the vacuum line that engages the front end between the solenoid and the front end...figured that was the case till i repaired the line and still no vacuum..found line was fulla water too, prob'ly from the hole{?}..i figured the water did the solenoid no good..so replaced it and 4x4 works fine as kind..all sorts of vacuum

The same as riccodob, except I had ice in the line. It would work when it was warm and not when it was cold, (below freezing).
