1998 4x4 electric shift motor removal

I've found my problem is a bad shift motor, removing the bad one,I have a brown wire going from it to the back of the transfer case, but no disconnect on it,it seems to go into the case thru a grommet, the replacement motor doesn't have this wire at all???
Any experiance with this ??Thanks

That brown wire is the power to the Electromagnetic clutch coil. Believe it or not it has to be removed from the connector on the old shift motor and reinstalled on the connector of the new shift motor. You will need to disassemble the connector to do this or use a pin remover tool. Once it is out it should snap right into the new connector.
