Question is it time to change transmission oil????

hellos first of all thanks for all the advice, i love this site. i have a 2004 f150 v8 4.6L ive never changed the transmission oil on my truck and it has 63,000 miles on it. when i took it to get my oil change they told me i should change it already. is this true? i havnt had any problems with it everythigns working good. thanks in advance.

Technically, the factory fill is good for 150k - under "normal" service - under "severe" service it needs to be done every 30k. I'd advise a change now on general principles.

should i just let them put whatever the factory recommends or is there a better transmission oil to use?

If you are going to change it every 30k, the factory semi-synthetic Mercon V is fine. If you go to a full synthetic, you can extend the intervals.
