I need to settle an argument maybe you guys can help from the 1997 to 2003 did ford offer a manual trasmission in a f150 super cab or single cab with the 5.4 engine? Thanks for any anwsers

 

No, the manual transmission was never offered in any configuration of truck with the 5.4 engine...only the 4.2 V6 and smaller 4.6 V8.

Only way to get a 5.4 with a manual tranny from the factory is to get a Superduty.

Now, in the newer models the 5 speed is only available with the V6 last I checked.

'99 - '03 was offered with the 4.6l v8 with 5 speed both in 4x2 and 4x4 configs.

'97 - '04 was offered with the 4.2l v6 with 5 speed both in 4x2 and 4x4 configs.

'04 New Body Style did not offer stick in that model year.

'05 - '08 New Body Style was offered with the 4.2l v6 with 5 speed in ONLY 4x2 configs.

Why they only offered 4x2 with the 5 speed in the NBS is beyond me.

I had to make my own. It started life as a 4.6 5 speed 4x4. Engine swap took care of the lack of power problem.

Slightly wrong

Knew a buddy who ordered one a long time ago in 97. The dealer didn't want to see him walk out the door and he didn't want to leave the dealer until he could order a 5.4 with the M50D in a supercab XLT. After lots of convincing the dealer that he needed more than the 4.6 with the 5 speed, they finally agreed to order a 5.4 5 speed F150. However, the dealer did make him sign a liability and warranty release on the transmission and clutch. Didn't believe it until I saw it in person myself but he ended up trading it for a superduty about a year ago, which is what he should have gotten in the first place.

 

boy id love to see that truck in person if what you say is true im amazed ford would go out of there way to do that for someone i wonder what ecu they used because in 97 there was no superduty and no 5.4 5spd it would have to been a custom program same with the wire harness unless the 5.4 uses the exact same plugs i kinda find it hard to believe but i guess its posible

 

may have been 97 or 98. or 99. it was some time in the 90's i'm sure but it was a long time ago.

 

A 5.4 with a M5OD-R2 from the factory. There is no drive shaft that would fit. All the 5.4s come with a 9.75 rear diff. All the M5ODs come with either a 4.2 or a 4.6 which means that have the 8.8 diff. It is smaller so the 5.4 would need a shorter driveshaft. So you are trying to tell me that the Factory went out and custom built a shorter driveshaft just for one truck. Sorry, I call BS on that one.

I guess it must've had the 9.75 because the factory didn't require a waiver for the axle. A 9.75 from the factory is possible, a different driveshaft isn't. I do remember it having a huge pumpkin.

FYI, if it did come with an 8.8 it would need a LONGER drive shaft

 

I might believe a special order 5.4 150 with a ZF, but not a M5OD.

 

According to JMC, a ZF will not fit without a lift. That's why it must have had the M50D.

 

The standard diff was the 8.8 with an M5OD-R2. So if this alleged Special 5.4 truck came with a 9.75 diff the standard 8.8 driveshaft would be too long. Call it what you want, the 8.8 drive shaft used with the manual tranny is about 1 ½ - ¾ inches longer than what would be needed if the truck had a 9.75 diff.

I guess you can **** into the wind all night.

I know the truck had a M50D, 5.4, and a 9.75. To me it seems like if someone is taking the time at the factory to match a 5.4 to a 5 speed then they could fab up or find a place to get a driveshaft. It's not all that hard to make a custom drive shaft with the ends you want at the right length. I honestly don't know what Ford did to get a driveshaft for it.

Not trying to start a fight. I just was stating what I saw.

 

Factories are not equipped to shorten driveshafts. What you most likely saw was a 4.6 that you were told was a 5.4.
