Really weird problem

So i was driving to Gander Mtn. to do some dreaming with one of my buddies and it was mild stop and go traffic. (drive about 1.5 mi and stop then go) well everything was all hunky dory but then as i was going to accelerate to keep up with traffic my tranny wouldn't shift out of first! So being the genius that i am i put it into 2nd on the tree, it shifted. Then, i put it back into "D" to see if it will shift further but it went back to 1st gear! then i was like WTF!! So i pull into the left turn lane and i put my truck in neutral, the idle RPM's shot up to 1500RPM's!! normal idle for my truck is around 750Rpm's.. I had to shift it into gear at the high idle because there was no other option, i went into a parking lot and parked turned off the engine and sat there for a good 2min.. Then i started it again because i decided whatever might as well go back home and see whats wrong. THE THING RAN FINE!! I was again like WTF?! It seems to be running like normal again though.. What the hell could've been the reason for this?!

THANKS
-Alex

My rookie estimate is maybe a shift solenoid? Just a guess, but my truck likes to do stupid crap like that too. Never shifted back into 1st for no reason after going into second, but sometimes she doesn't like to grab 2nd. Especially if you hold the accellerator in one place-juice it a little and she goes. I'd like to see what others have to say about this too.

Yeah that could be it but hey i really dont know anythig about tranny's..

Then again it wasn't just the tranny, it also was idling really high in "N" and in park.. 1500rpm's to be exact

This hasn't happened since but seriously what a werid thing o happen then just not happen anymore.. I'm starting to think it was something with the Computer and not the tranny

Is that your truck in the picture? If so I would disconnect the connectors at the tranny and put a dab of dielectric grease on them. I would also extend the breather on the tranny & t-case to be way up in the engine compartment. FWIW all of my engine compartment connectors have been dabbed with grease too.

You may want to check/replace your TPS, if your TPS is malfunctioning, your truck will not shift right, and could be a good reason for the high idle.

There are ways to test the TPS for proper voltage, you'll just need to do a search, and a new TPS is only $40-$50 at napa

I think the weirdest part of this whole thing is how it happend almost a week ago and it has never done it before or after that ONE time.. I think i will leave it be until something happens again, because i have no money for that kind of stuff right now, or gas for that matter..lol
