Please help. tranny or what?
My '98 expy. Just posted about the heater core.. well we got that all worked out now heres what happened.
The steering column while we had it all out slipped off the seat and bam. now its stuck in gear, it rolled back a few inches when that happened. we caught it, blocked it off. no problem. UNTIL... we get everything back together and now its stuck in gear, wont even turn over.
Looking under the steering column I can see the cable, it has some sort of casing around it and that is broken off. still around the actual cable but its in two parts where I'm sure it was whole before. I am sick over it. Pretty sure its going to be an even bigger deal than the heater core. moving manually underneath everything is moving. thats about as far as I can go with info, please if you can point me in any direction I will greatly appreciate it.
PS, Ive searched and theres no ford expy forums that I could find. have to post here so forgive the intrusion.

if i read the post correctly, it sounds like you had the steering column detatched from the dash or whatever, while you were changing out a heater core, why i dont know but, it might be that if the shifter is on the column, then you might have knocked loose the linkage and it got put into a gear somehow. thats the only thing i can wrap my mind around right now,
when i put the body lift on my ex-gf's truck we had to undo the linkage to the shifter, thats what i think.

To remove the dash you need to unbolt the steering column from the support. It then rests on the seat when you remove the dash from the truck. It is the same as an F-150. The shift cable is attached to the lever at the bottom of the column. Does the column shifter move at all? The cable may have broken the clip at the bottom of the column. Have some one shift the lever while you look at the cable movement. Obviously the case should not move and stay attached to the column while the cable is moving. If that checks out have a look at the transmission to see if the same thing is happening. Just so you understand, there are three parts to the cable; an outer casing, a plastic/nylon sheath and finally the metal cable.
