Hey all,
I am contemplating changing my tranny fluid/filter in my 97 f-150 4x4 with a 4.6L and auto tranny. I have heard of tranny's going out after changing fluids, is this true? What is the best fluid to use to replace if I do this? Also, what brand of tranny filter?

I've heard many old time mechs say changing the fluid in a high mile trans is sure death, but I've heard more up-to-daters say that this is an "old wive's tale" and if it's gonna fail it will fail regardless. I would change the fluid. If you've experienced that many trouble free miles from any modern electronic trans your lucky.
