93 Lightning not shifting correctly!

Good Afternoon, I am the proud owner of a first gen lightning wiht a little over 100k on it, she is my baby. After getting job that required me to commute a long way, i decided to buy a little car to get me from point a to b efficiently.

Anyways i havent driven the truck in about two months, so i decided to spoil it 2 days ago and washed and waxed it. However when i went to start it to go get some gas. i noticed multiple problems... My spedo has stopped working my radio wont turn on, the power seats are not working and power mirrors wont turn... but besides all of that the truck is not shifting right at all...

it goes into drive and you hit the accelerator, ive learned most of my shift points so i was concerned when after a few seconds of my expect shift... it did nothing, then some more gas went into the system and THUMP into gear. second had the same problem. its shifiting very very very very late. and its scary...

at first i looked at the fuses. everything looked ok at a first glace, i check again today and two of my fuses are bad, so that explains some of the problems. i decided to let the ecu drain, took the negative off the terminal and let it drain... (is this the right procedure?) and hooked everything back up had to find the kill switch and started her back up and still have the same problem, i have yet to replace the fuses one of being the powerpoint, iam not super concerned, but does anyone have any ideas or input???

-Dave

You shouldn't "drain" the EEC - killing the KAM destroys all the engine adaptions, so the EEC has to re-learn how to control the engine, and it can run badly for quite a while as it re-adapts.

The circuit that feeds the speedo also feeds a few other things, so track them down & find/fix the short that blew the fuse. A Haynes manual will show most of them, but a Ford service disk would be even better. If you can't find one, e-mail me about it.

The speedo feeds the EEC info to control the trans, so that's why it's not shifting right. Read this thread.

None of these questions are specific to a Lightning, but if you DO have that type of question in the future, you'll get better & faster answers on NLOC.

These questions are really electrical, but for most things on your truck, you should post in the pre-'97 forum here, or on NLOC, or on FSB. F150online caters to '97-up, so there's not much activity here for older trucks.
