Manual 5.4!

I want a manual 5.4 triton, from what i hear they were never made. How hard would it be too take one out of a f250 and match it to the 5.4 becuase i know they make a 250 with a 5.4 and a manual trans. I really want a manual. I do alot racing and my trans seems like its shuddering and slipping. Im just looking for an alternatice to having my trans rebuilt, and a little fun.

Hmmmm... well, it can be done... and I wouldn't bank much money on a manual tranny from a f250 for racing purposes...

Is the truck RWD only? As in 4x2? If it is.. then if you hire a qualified mechanic that has been doing this type of stuff for a really long time, then I would say go for a ultra heavy duty racing transmission... as it can be welded right up to the frame... it ain't like a front wheel drive car/truck... you've got plenty of room to work with...

Not to mention your 0-60 times will be better... as long as you know how to shift.

Let me tell you something... the stick in my truck, being it a v6, really makes this truck VERY peppy... I can only imagine what it would be like with a 5.4l... I think 1st would be useless as it is now..

FYI I've got a 4.7l V8 Dakota, 5 speed... talk about a jet fighter... 3rd and 4th are like let's get the show rolling. Like seriously. An engine pushing 335 ft/lbs to the ground with a 5 speed with a truck that weighs 3700 lbs... (mind you it weighs less than most full size cars)... it makes that friggin thing move out quick. Not to mention serious burnout power. I've roasted tires to almost the rim... It's sick.

I plan on Roush Supercharging it... with that, it would roll out quick... REAL quick.

some super duties have 5.4's and 6speed manuals, but like previouly said it probabley has a long clutch and a long throw in the shifter. Its meant to be heavy duty and tow. Im not sure how the 5speed that is in my f150 would hold up to a 5.4 and racing, and I don't even know if it will mount to the 5.4 block. They both use the same automatic tranny's so it might fit. If its 2wd then custom mounts, crossmember, and driveshaft might do it. You will certainly get more power to the ground too.

There is a guy on here that has a 97-03 with a 5.4 manual, but don't remember who.

I think a 5.4 would toast a Mazda M5-OD (that's what 5 speed 150's with the 4.2 and 4.6 have) real quick, and it's not exactly a quick shifter either. Maybe a Mustang tranny? I believe the Superduty manuals are ZF - indestructible but wide ratio, long throw, and as you said, heavy duty and for towing.

Just a dream - but one of these days I might want to throw a V10 and a ZF into mine when I'm done using it for a daily driver........would that be a sleeper or what?

I was going to get a 5.4l F250 with a 6 speed... but they had to SO it... and I needed a truck quick. But I wanted stick... so I chose the F150. I got it at a steal because the dealer said they had no takers on it for like 8 months and they wanted it out. So I nabbed it... so far so good on that end.

However, after I pay it off, I plan on getting a Super Duty... not sure if it's gonna be a gasser or a diesel. Got about 2 years to decide...

But now what's on my chopping block is my Dak and it's paint job.

Built Auto

I tend to agree with M150. I think a built automatic wouldbe your best bet. I personally like the feel of a stick too and like to drive my wifes little car as such. I looked into Monster Transmissions and their proces are very reasonable for a performance transmission. I suggest you google them and hit the web site. The money you woudl spend on a conversion would almost certainly be more. Plus I would seriously think about changin your rear end suspension should you go to a manual. Again I think the built auto is still the way to go.

a built auto will slam any manual... I agree, I would love to have a 6 speed in my truck, but any built auto would be better for racing.

Built auto for racing would be best! And less money.
