1996 E4OD into 1991

Is this a direct swap?

I am in need of a tranny, understand they made improvements in 1993, and found one local.

460 engine by the way.

I don't think I'd put a E4OD behind a 460, I'd look for a C6.

It came with an E4OD. Bought the truck site unseen transmission was gone in it. Not bad, not not working, gone. They neglected to tell me.

Anyway want to keep it like it came. C6's all over the place but I would prefer the OD.

They finally got all the bugs out in '95, so a '96 7.5L or diesel E4OD should work fine. You can't use one from a smallblock.

Bought it.

Findings.
The output shaft does not have the teeth to run the speedo gear and the sensor. I understand I must have this.
Looks like all the other items I can swap over from a 1991 model, brackets, MPLS, etc (if I can find one).

Not sure what I am going to do with the output shaft though. Looks like to change it I have to disassemble the entire tranny. And of course it's already installed.

You have another option: swap your old cable-drive speedo for the '92-96 PSOM. I forgot about that because I've already done it to my truck.

.

But you'll probably need to swap to the '93 EEC since the '91 won't recognize the speed input from the ABS sensor - it's designed to use the VSS sensor.

Otherwise, you'll be rebuilding your new trans.

Hmmm. Swapping more stuff.

But curiousity has me asking what other sensors are different.
MPLS, etc.

The MLPS probably has a different connector due to the redesign (read the TSB about water intrusion in this thread), but the switch itself is identical. You can't even buy the original MLPS any more - the new version is the update, and it includes a replacement connector shell for trucks that haven't been converted yet.

Ok where do I get the specs to rebuild my tranny?
Torque specs, etc. Need to know about what gaskets I will be needing.

I am going to pull this puppy apart and replace the shaft. I've never done a tranny before but I feel I'm capable. I've been tinkering with vehicles for so long it believe it's time to fall off the deep end.

Update.

In the middle of this, finally. Where can I find a good blow-up/parts diagram for this tranny? I have the atsg book on it but the diagram is poo.

My reason is I cannot remember which goes first into the case with the reverse pressure plate and clutch pack. The large gear-like pressure plate or does that get put in last and the snap ring holds it in place.
