trans shifting hard

trans shifting hard

My transmission lately has been screwing up on me bad. The o/d has been flashing on and off and it has been shifting really hard , so hard at times it nearly gives me whiplash . I was wondering if it could be the torque converter or just needs to be rebuilt or replaced ? The codes just gives me the OSS and I replaced it and it did no good. It is a 4r70w with 150k miles in a 97 4.2L f150. Any suggestions on what else it could be ?

It's probably a problem with the wiring to the OSS.

Replacing the torque converter and/or the transmission will probably NOT fix the problem. Fix what's wrong with the OSS and you should be fine.

I checked the codes again today and it gave me another code that I was unaware of. Its the p0705 Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction . Anyone knows what that is?

That is your manual lever position sensor. Quite easy to change. I buy them at autozone. MAke sure the adjustment is correct when you install the new one. Just line up the marks in neutral.
