F150 1999 4x4 automatic question

I got a quick question, when im doing my day to day driving, should my 4x4 shifter be in the middle (N) or up high on (2H)?

I've been driving it while in the N position - from what i read, its not suposed to drive but it does ~shrugs~

Thanks!

I assume since you use the terms "up" and "down" that you don't have an electronic 4X4 system. Four wheel drive should always be in 2H for highway driving. If you leave it in neutral I'm pretty sure you're truck won't move. And if it does, you might be causing some damage via slipping.

From what I've read 2H is where it should be at. The odd thing, is for the past 5 years i've been driving with the floor 4x4 shifter in the middle on N. I will go out on my work break in a second and pop it into 2h and drive it around to make sure nothing breaks!

Thanks!!

It should be in 2h, not N. N should be no power to either driveshaft. Your linkage is misaligned. I would almost be willing to bet can not get it into 4lo.
