2001 f150 delayed shift

I have a 2001 f150 with 175000 on the odometer and it takes a long time to shift into 3rd and will start slipping, but if you let off the gas after steady accelleration it lunges into gear. What could my problem be??

I had a problem shifting into third under wide open throttle (WOT) and it seemed the tranny went into neutral. Try changing the tranny fluid, seemed to work for me, couldn't hurt to try for you too.

HITEKREDNK, did you figure out what was causing it because mine starting doing the same thing as you described today? I have a 2000 f150 with the 4R70W automatic transmission. You described exactly what mine started doing today. I just changed the fluid and filter less than 10,000 miles ago which included draining the torque converter. I don't think changing it again would do any good because it wasn't a gradual problem. It just started doing it when it had been working fine.

No not yet. I hope that it is something outside the transmission, but deep down I believe that it is the transmission, one that I can't afford to fix at the moment.

Sounds like it could possibly be the shift solinoids to me, have you done the regular trans services/flush's??? It is a pretty straight forward repair, and can be done when changing the trans filter/gasket, think the parts are like $40....

Any OD lamp flashing at all??? Or possibly CEL on??
