Transmission interlock switch

I took my 2004 screw 4X4 to the stealer the other day because my cruise control quit working. Anyway they told me it was the tranny interlock switch and they want $350.00 to fix it. Does anyone know where this switch is located and how hard it would be to replace? I'm no SAE mechanic but I do alot of my own wrenching. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Never heard of a "tranny interlock switch". There's certainly no such thing in the cruise circuit.

Someone either miscommunicated details to you or they're jerking you around.

That is the shift interlock solenoid. It is located on the steering column, under the dash.

It is in no way related to the speed control system except they each require valid brake light switch inputs to function properly.

If the shift interlock were malfunctioning, you'd be reporting problems getting the shift lever out of PARK.

Was yiur truck on the recall list for the brake sw problem ? The one that had
electrical fires because of brake fluid contaminating the switch ?

The 04 was not part of that recall as it did not have the same defect.

The diagnostic is on the service dvd. It's amazing what would happen if you googled "ford service dvd".....

As I recall, the 04 has an easy to use cruise diagnostic built in that can give you some starting data.

Would this also be the cause for not getting it back into park?
