Clutch switch issues

Just bought a '92 F150 with a 5.0 and a 5 spd manual transmission. The clutch switch is acting up. I have to pump the clutch up and down most time to get it to engage and fire up the starter. Is this an easy fix? I'm not sure what the thing looks like, so I don't know what I'm supposed to replace. Thanks. -Al Nobles

You don't replace anything until you test it & it shows to be bad.

The clutch switch is a fat tube that wraps around the master cylinder pushrod above the gas pedal, and it's not hard to adjust it. The procedure (with diagrams & photos) is in the Haynes manual.

But the fact that it has changed suggests that you have a bigger problem with the clutch system. The Mazda M5OD-R2 that was used in those trucks is known to have its share of problems, and the concentric slave cylinder is high on the list. Do you have any brake fluid dripping out of the bellhousing? Pull the clutch master cylinder cap, remove the rubber diaphragm, and check the fluid level.
