Thanks

I got it fixed from a different FORD dealership.

They said the tranny fluid was all gunked up for some reason, did a washout for $240 and added new tranny fluid and it runs great.... still have to pick it up.

The other dealership charged me $150 for telling me they couldn't warrenty it because of the edge chip. They also told me i had to get the whole tranny replaced for $3,890.

The second dealership said it had nothing to do with the edge product whatsoever.

Edge back on and runnin great!!!

Cars and trucks are designed and built to certain specifications and warrantied as such. When you tinker with one and change those parameters, you should logically expect them to balk when you try to run it in under a warranty claim.

Addressing the "prove it" mentality.. if you were in the dealership's shoes, would you want to spend the time and $ to diagnose a highly questionable warranty problem only to have the owner refuse repair and insist to be towed down to the local shadetree mechanic once you tell them that it won't be covered?
Where was he crucified? Seems just the opposite to me. Good discussion about the problems without flaming.

Thats great, like I said before the other dealer didnt even check to see what was wrong they just blamed the tuner. By the way how many miles did you have on your truck.

Maybe I was a bit preemptive and overdramatic from having been dog piled myself after stating the same.

He may be yet if a lot of the "don't ask, don't tell" crowd see this thread.

All of us wind up paying for false warranty claims. Some more than others.

Glad to hear that you got your tranny fixed 04. Is it a high mileage truck or has something else caused that? It definitely doesn't sound right unless your transmission is getting hot for some reason.

Glad to hear you got it fixed.

The whole fraud thing...technically he'd be stealing from Ford, because dealerships get reimbursed by the MFR for warrarty repairs

Had the same problem

with my 04. Something in my tranny broke in the reverse gear so the computer put the truck in fail safe mode so that you couldnt run it past 20mph. That may be what your truck is doing..... They fixed mine under warranty even with my 33" tires on the truck..... I have the edge but I removed it from the truck b/f I took it in and they didnt even ask me any questions, I just told them what happened and they fixed it....

I would find another dealer if I were you!!

What would gunk a tranny up other than clutch surface material?

Especially when dealers do some of the same mods themselves and warranty the new modified truck.
That's why I said, is it possible? Sure. Probable? I seriously doubt it. It just puts dealers in a sticky situation, 'cause Ford pays dealers the bare *** minimum they can to get the customer's vehicle back on the road. As sorry as it may be, and I ain't saying it's right, I can almost see blaming a failure on whatever mods may be on the truck. But the good news is, the law is on the consumer's side with the Magnusson-Moss act.

Crucified? Nah, ain't nothing new, and whatever I get here ain't no worse than what I get on a daily basis.

If I were in the dealership's shoes, it wouldn't necessarily be the time and money I spent to diagnose a highly questionable warranty problem. It'd be fixing this highly questionable warranty problem, then Ford calling for the parts I replaced to examine to determine the cause of the failure. Scientifically or not, if they determine that the parts failure was caused by outside circumstances or modifications, I as the dealer just got hosed because Ford will not pay for the warranty claim. I just ate a transmission repair/replacement/overhaul/diagnosis in this case.

There's a lot of politics going on behind the scenes in the offices and at the desks of warranty administrators at your friendly neighborhood stealerships that have a lot of influence on whether or not your truck will get the fix it needs, modified or not. This is a sad and depressing truth.
