e4od 4x4 to 2x4

My truck is 4x4, If I remove the transfercase, what part do I need to put in place of that? I know someone here has done it... I need to find that part and measure for a new driveshaft...

Involves a complete taredown front to back to replace the tailshaft as thats the first thing to go in. If it's a good unit, better off trading for one.

No. Fixing whatever is wrong with the 4X4 or tranny would be the better idea.

Barring that, trade it for a 2WD.

You need a 4x2 output shaft and a 4x4 extension housing to convert a 4x4 to a 4x2. You also need to completely disassemble the transmission to change the output shaft.

3. Magic

I'd go with number 2.

You're not going to lose enough weight to make much difference and you will decrease the value of your truck. The transfer case and front driveshaft might weigh 150 lbs. And you've still got that heavy axle up front. If you have your heart set on doing it, a swap to the 4X2 trans is your best bet. It seems to me that some of the old 4X2 Bronco IIs used a faux transfer case (BW1359) with no gears or front output shaft in order to use the 4X4 trans but you would still have the weight of the case.

I dont plan to ever sell it so that part doesnt bother me... I am removing the front axle too, and the cv shafts, except the part to keep the wheel bearings together, so thats about 300lbs less, plus the rotating mass. im either getting a 2wd trans or just rebuild mine and convert to a 2wd

Too bad you couldn't find someone who has a 2wd like yours and just swap transes, front axles, driveshafts, etc.
