1997 f250 o/d problem

1997 f250 o/d problem

just bought a 97 powerstroke..4x4..has 250k on it..trans was rebuilt about 170k..the overdrive button isnt working, not even lighting up..any ideas?

Have you started with the basics - check all the fuses? Hopefully it's something this simple.

Fuse or very common for the bitty wires to break coming out of the shifter tube. Take off the cover under the stearin' column and check em out.

do the wires from the shifter run under the column or on the top side..which two should i be looking for..also, on the fuse panel it doesnt list an overdrive fuse, do you know which one it is? thanks for the replies and help...

ok..i took it apart..wire was broken, and had been spliced before..i added a small wire, and still no luck..inspecting the wires, i found several bad spots,,i was getting power on one lead to the switch..so.,i replaced the switch...still not able to take the tranny out of o/d..so,, i took a paper clip, made a jumper, removing all the wiring on the switch side of the harness,and it worked,,said all that to ask this,,is there a complete asslemby, shifter with wiring harness i can replace this one with??

Ford dealer has em for 70bucks if i remember right. Or a junkyard.

installed new shifter today,,works great,,thanks for all the help and sharing of knowledge,.One more question..what transmission module would you reccomend to decrease the sluggish changing..not lookkin for drag racing performance..just mild to moderate towing,.thanks
