Adding an efan to your tranny cooler

Has anyone done this? I know that troyer has a combo with an active cooler that has a radiator with a fan. I was wondering about installing a small efan over the trans cooler. That should be just a good. Anyone done or considering this?

HI!... I've been running a 10" electric fan on a 10" X 14" PERMA-COOL tranny cooler now for about 7 years. Works great.

Hey Neal do you run it all the time? Or with a thermostat?

Where did you get your fan (actual purchase) from and how did you install it? Was it easy. I've got an edge on the way. I want to see what the stock temps are before I do this. The main reason that I want to do it is to extend the life of the tranny. Either one of you feel like doing a write up on this? Did you get a push or pull style?

Neal's is an additional cooler with a fan mounted on it already. Similar to the one at Troyer and the on that I have. I'm not sure what built54 has. I haven't seen anyone posting on here about just adding a fan to the existing cooler. I thought about it myself, but figured it was easier to add another cooler with the fan already on it. It seemed to me you would have to change the mounting of the factory cooler to get a puller behind it. and it would have to be smaller than the common 10 inch that is used on these cooler kits.

I have a 10" mounted behind the bumper, its a puller. I do have plans to mount it somewhere else though, probably under the bed with the fan on a switch.

I have an 8" fan on my aux cooler.
It is adjustable thermostat controlled. The sensor in mounted on the inlet trans line to the radiator.
Set to about 185°, powered direct from the battery thuu a 15 amp fuse.
Never comes on in normal unloaded running but during towing and hot ambient temps.
It also will cool the engine bay at shut down if the temp has gone high enough at the sensor.
The fan is about $60 and the controller less than $20 at Advance Auto.

I would love to see some pics of how it is mounted.

Yes, me too. This is something I am considering doing soon. As it is a guilt free mod that will help prolong the life of my truck!

HI!... Actually I'm running the factory tow package tranny cooler (larger) and a PERMA-COOL 10" x 14" aux tranny cooler. The 10" electric fan was added later on. It is a SUMMIT RACING brand fan. I've now basically removed all the coolers from the truck. Since I'll be running a manual PINTO rack now I have no need of the P/S pump so the P/S cooler has been ditched. Both tranny cooler will be replaced with a custom fabricated larger unit which will basically be 1/3 of a factory 2 core rade with custom aluminum tanks. It will be mounted below my intercooler in front of the hole in the front lower valance. It will have 2 SPAL electric fans mounted on it.

Neal, are you running a push or pull setup? Are you interested in selling either one of those fans?
