Is Front Axle supposed to turn in 2WD?
Is Front Axle supposed to turn in 2WD?
I fixed a vaccum leak in my 97 f150 that was causing my 4wheel drive not to work, now looks like my front axle is turning while in 2WD? Wasting tons of gas....Any ideas, I will check the lines again but not sure if there is something else i might miss.

The '97-'03 CV half shafts spin all the time. When you lock in 4x4 the Center Axle Disconnect locks the two halves together.
Even with more traditional Dana 44 TTB and 60 solid axles that I leave locked from the first snow 'till spring, I notice only less than a 1mpg loss.

When you fixed the leak did you reverse the vacuum lines to the axle disconnect motor? If you did the axle is engaged in 4x2, thus turning the front drive shaft.
