4x4 4x2 differances

4x4 4x2 differances

I have a 98 f150 4x4 5spd and i am buying a new tranny. I have found the one i want and the guy says that there is a differance in a 4x4 as compasred to a 4x2 and that it will be another 100$ Is there a differance cuase all my research shows that they are the same?

Nope, different animal. The 4x2 has a sealed tailshaft and a yoke for a driveshaft. A 4x4 unit has a splined shaft out the back end and a mount for the transfer case.

As mentioned they are different. The output shafts are different as wellas the extension housings.
