Transmission Leaking Bad From Bellhousing
ok guys i have 97 f 150 automatic 4x4
my problem is once my tranny gets up to pressure the tranny fluid just starts pouring out of the inspection hole in bellhousing
a while back you guys suggested that my front seal was bad
well i had it changed this past week and that did not solve problem
the guy that did it said that everything looked ok when he had tranny out of truck he changed the seal put everything back togther took truck for ride said it shifted firm etc but when he pulled back to the yard it was still pouring out of inspection hole
ok could he have put the seal in backwards? or am i looking at a bigger problem then a simple seal
any help would be greatly appreciated i have been without truck since november and i am getting to the point of just burning the thing

Behind the front seal is a bronze bushing the end of the converters rides in. When this bushing is worn it allows the converter to wobble just enough to cause a leak even with a new seal. The bushing itself is cheap but the pump assembly has to be remove and disasembled to replace. Should also make sure there is no grove cut into the sealing area of the converter.

no the front seal didnt fix the problem thats wh yi was re asking about it
he thinks its the bushing the problem is that he cant fix that have to take tranny to shop for it
so basicly i have had the front seal replaced which i didnt need but whatever
and he is going to remove tranny again for me and re install tranny when i get it fixed so far its only cost me 300$ and whatever shop charges me to fix tranny and i havent touched the truck myself

I've seen this on the 97 transmissions many times. Here is the scenario I usually see. The roller clutch starts to lose parts. The parts make it into the pump and bushing. The trans is on it's last leg. Maybe you have a fluke pump problem or a cracked pump, I however doubt it. Before you do anything more drop the pan and look for unusual parts. It could be cheaper to replace the trans than to repair it and then have to replace it a month later.
